Nearpie ("we", "our", or "us") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, retain, and protect information when you use the Nearpie mobile application, website, and related services (collectively, the "Services").
By using Nearpie, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Account and Profile Information
We may collect information you provide when creating or updating your account, including:
- Username.
- Full name or display name.
- Date of birth.
- Gender, if provided.
- Phone number or authentication information.
- Profile photo.
- Profile verification, badges, or account status.
- Other profile information you choose to provide.
1.2 Location Information
Nearpie is built around nearby discovery. We may collect and process location-related information, including:
- Device location when you grant permission.
- Approximate area or geohash used for nearby feeds.
- Last known city, region, country, and capture time.
- Places or locations you search, select, follow, post about, or open.
- Location information attached to posts, events, carpools, or lost and found items.
You can control location permissions through your device settings. Some features may not work correctly without location access.
1.3 User Content
We collect content you create, upload, send, or interact with, including:
- Posts, comments, replies, likes, and shares.
- Photos, videos, thumbnails, and related storage metadata.
- Event details, images, dates, locations, and descriptions.
- Carpool trip details such as route, date, seats, notes, and creator information.
- Lost and found item details, images, dates, locations, and descriptions.
- Direct chat messages, media, replies, deletion state, read state, mute state, and chat membership data.
- Anonymous posts, comments, and replies, including private author records used for safety, moderation, account ownership, and deletion workflows.
1.4 Device, App, and Usage Information
We may collect technical and usage information, including:
- Device type, operating system, app version, platform, and language settings.
- Firebase installation, App Check, or device identifiers used to secure the Services.
- Push notification tokens and device token records.
- Feature usage, screens viewed, taps, searches, errors, and performance data.
- Crash reports, diagnostics, logs, and analytics events.
- IP address and request metadata processed by our hosting and security providers.

If you contact us, we may collect your email address, message contents, and related support information.
2. How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Create, authenticate, and maintain your account.
- Provide nearby feeds, location pages, posts, profiles, events, carpools, lost and found, chat, notifications, and sharing features.
- Upload, store, display, and deliver text, images, videos, and thumbnails.
- Personalize local content based on location, followed places, followed people, and activity.
- Provide Google Maps-powered place search, place details, and location selection.
- Send push notifications for activity, follows, comments, replies, likes, shares, and chat messages, subject to your settings.
- Maintain chat inboxes, unread counts, read receipts, muting, and active chat presence.
- Process account deletion and remove or anonymize eligible data.
- Detect, prevent, and respond to spam, abuse, fraud, security incidents, unauthorized access, and policy violations.
- Enforce rate limits, quotas, app integrity checks, and database/storage rules.
- Debug, analyze, improve, and develop the Services.
- Comply with legal obligations and protect users, Nearpie, and the public.
3. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information.
We may share information in the following ways:
- With other users, when you post, comment, reply, like, share, follow, create listings, send messages, or otherwise use social features.
- With service providers that help us operate the Services, such as cloud hosting, Firebase, Google Maps, authentication, storage, analytics, crash reporting, push notifications, and app distribution providers.
- With legal authorities or other parties when required by law, legal process, or a valid government request.
- To protect rights, safety, security, property, users, or the Services.
- In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, subject to appropriate protections.
- With your consent or at your direction.
4. Public and Shared Information
Some Nearpie activity is visible to other users or people with shared links. This may include your username, profile photo, public profile details, posts, comments, replies, likes, share counts, event listings, carpool listings, lost and found listings, followed or follower relationships, location names, and timestamps.
Anonymous features may hide your identity from public display, but private records may still be stored and used by Nearpie for safety, moderation, ownership, and legal purposes.
5. Location and Maps
We use location data and place information to power nearby discovery and local features. When you search for or select places, requests may be processed using Google Maps services. Google may process information under its own privacy policies.
Nearpie may store place identifiers, location names, coordinates, geohashes, and related metadata attached to posts, listings, followed places, and user activity.
6. Chat and Notifications
Nearpie may store chat messages, chat media metadata, reply references, deleted message markers, read state, unread counts, chat membership records, active chat presence, mute settings, and push notification tokens.
We use this information to deliver chat, update inboxes, suppress notifications when you are actively viewing a chat, honor mute settings, and send relevant push notifications.
7. Media and Storage
When you upload photos or videos, we may store the media, generated thumbnails, download URLs, storage paths, file metadata, owner identifiers, file size, and content type. Media may be removed when you delete related content or your account, subject to retention, backup, and technical limitations.
8. Analytics, Diagnostics, and Security
We may use analytics, crash reporting, performance monitoring, logs, App Check, rate limits, and other security tools to understand usage, improve stability, protect users, and prevent abuse.
These tools may process device information, app activity, crash details, request metadata, and identifiers needed for security and diagnostics.
9. Data Retention
We retain information for as long as needed to provide the Services, operate features, maintain security, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, comply with legal obligations, and support legitimate business purposes.
Retention periods vary depending on the type of information. Deleted content or accounts may remain for a limited time in backups, logs, caches, moderation records, or systems where immediate deletion is not technically practical.
10. Account Deletion and Your Choices
You may request account deletion through available in-app options or by contacting us. See our Account Deletion page for deletion steps and details about associated data. Account deletion may remove, delete, or anonymize eligible account information and user content. Some data may be retained where required or permitted for legal compliance, safety, fraud prevention, security, backups, dispute resolution, or legitimate business purposes.
You may also:
- Update profile information in the app.
- Control location, camera, photo library, notification, and other permissions through device settings.
- Delete certain posts, comments, replies, messages, events, carpools, lost and found items, or media where the app provides controls.
- Mute chats or manage notification behavior where available.
- Contact us to request access, correction, or deletion of personal information.
11. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards to protect information. These may include Firebase security rules, App Check, authentication, rate limits, ownership metadata, server-side validation, and restricted backend operations.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
12. Children's Privacy
Nearpie is not directed to children under 13. If local law requires a higher minimum age or parent or guardian consent, you may use Nearpie only if those requirements are satisfied. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected such information, we will take steps to delete it.
13. International Processing
Your information may be processed and stored in countries other than where you live. Data protection laws may differ from those in your location.
14. Third-Party Services
Nearpie may use third-party services, including Firebase, Google Maps, analytics providers, crash reporting providers, app stores, operating system services, and push notification providers. These services may collect or process information under their own privacy policies.
15. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updated versions will be posted with a revised "Last updated" date. Your continued use of Nearpie after an update means you accept the updated policy.
